Indianapolis Colts center Ryan Kelly tested positive for COVID-19 and will not practice Wednesday, according to the team. Given the new protocols the NFL put in place for the 2022 season, Kelly must be isolated for five days after a positive test. That means Kelly is not expected to play in the preseason finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday. With Kelly now isolating for the time being, the Colts will rely on starting right guard Danny Pinter, who has also been working as the backup center.
Nick Saban is riding the Crimson Tide all the way to the bank. The legendary coach just signed a one-year contract extension with Alabama, which pushes his contract through the 2029 season and pays him more than 93 million dollars over the next eight years. This means he’s the highest-paid coach in college football. Before this, Georgia’s Kirby Smart was the top-paid coach after he signed a new deal in July. In the wake of last week’s players-only meeting, the PGA Tour has responded with a sweeping overhaul of its schedule and how players are compensated. Commissioner Jay Monahan announced that 12 events will be moved to “elevated” status, starting with the 22-23 season, with an additional four tournaments set to join that level. These events will have an average purse of $20 million. The changes require top players to play at least 20 events a season. Previously, the Tour required players to participate in at least 15 events a season. The elevated events for the 2022-23 season, in addition to the four majors, are The Players, three FedExCup Playoff events, Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational, WGC-Dell Match Play, and Sentry Tournament of Champions. Four more elevated events will be announced in the next two months.
Len Dawson, former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Pro Football Hall of Fame member and co-host of the groundbreaking HBO show “Inside The NFL,” has died at 87. Dawson was the starting QB for the Chiefs when they beat the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV. Dawson was named the MVP of that 23-7 win as he threw a game-sealing 46-yard TD pass to Otis Taylor in the third quarter to provide the winning margin.The fifth overall pick of the 1957 draft out of Purdue, Dawson played professionally until his retirement in 1975.
