The Loogootee Lions Volleyball team lost a 5-set thriller to Jasper last night…27-25.  25-27.   26-24.   20-25.    12-15
North Daviess Varsity falls in 4 sets to the Rams of Paoli with scores of 13-25, 21-25, 25-23, and 12-25. The Cougars face the Shoals JugRox at home tonight at 6pm, varsity match only.  The Cougars go to 1 and 1 on the season.
 
The Barr Reeve Viking Volleyball team shut down Bloomfield on the road last night in straight sets 3-0 for their opening win of the season.
 
The Barr-Reeve Boys Tennis team won their match at Bedford North Lawrence 4-1 on Monday night to go 1-0 on the season.  The Vikings travel to Linton today.
 
The Washington Boys Tennis team fell just short to Sullivan last night 3 to 2.
 
The Barr Reeve Girls Golf Team set a new record at Country Oaks last night as all five players on the team scored in the 40’s for the first time in school history.  Braylee Knepp was the match medalist with a 40, and the Lady Vikings set a team record carding a 171 on the day.  Barr Reeve topped North Daviess who finished with a 199 and Washington who had a 209.
 
The Washington Catholic Boys and Girls Soccer teams are in action today.  The boys travel to Shoals, while the girls play at Rees Field again Princeton.

 It’s August, which means college football season is upon us! Alabama is the Associate Press’ top pick in their preseason poll for the second straight season and ninth time overall. Ohio State is number two, followed by Georgie, Clemson, and Notre Dame.  The Crimson Tide have a stacked team, which includes reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young and national defensive player of the year Will Anderson Junior.
The Chicago White Sox beat the Houston Astros 4-2 in Chicago to gain a half game on the Guardians in the AL Central. After giving up two runs in the first inning, Johnny Cueto went seven scoreless innings and the bats put up four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. In Washington, the Chicago Cubs gave up a solo shot to Nelson Cruz in the home half of the eighth inning ultimately falling 5-4 to the team with the worst record in baseball. The Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers split the doubleheader in Cleveland as the Guardians surrendered a half game to those giving chase in the division. Despite jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, the Cincinnati Reds gave up four unanswered runs to the Phillies in a 4-3 loss.
Chris Woodward has landed himself the target of the Texas Rangers firing squad. The MLB team fired their manager after he has now had a fourth consecutive year with a losing record. This comes despite the fact that the Rangers spent more than a half-billion guaranteed dollars in the free agent market over the winter. Third-base coach Tony Beasley will be the interim manager through the remainder of the season.
