Daviess Co. Council Approves Additional Fuel Appropriations

The Daviess County Council met for a short meeting on Wednesday. The big topic of discussion was fuel prices. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office was requesting an additional $22,000 for fuel. The amount was approved.
The Daviess County Highway Department was also requesting an additional $75,000 for fuel. The department has already spent about $177,000 of its $250,000 annual budget. Councilman Mike Sprinkle noted that diesel fuel prices have not been falling as fast as regular gas prices. The council approved that additional appropriation as well.
In other business, the council approved an agreement with PayGov and an additional $11,000 for IT license renewals. The council also approved the $5,000 needed to participate in the SIDC’s Land Bank Initiative. The money was taken out of the Riverboat Fund. Land banks take vacant, abandoned, or blighted properties and turn them into new homes or business sites. Councilman Darin Holder noted the program could have merit in cleaning up some Daviess County properties.
