The American League All-Star team defeated the National League 3-2 from Dodger Stadium in the 2022 MLB All-Star Game. The AL has now won the last nine Mid-Summer Classics and have lost just three times since 1997. Twenty different pitchers stepped on the mound with Clayton Kershaw starting for the NL and Shane McClanahan starting for the American League. McClanahan and Tony Gonsolin were the only two pitchers to give up runs in the game. St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt hit the lone home run for the home team in the bottom of the first inning. Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton was named MVP of the All-Star game thanks to his two run shot that sailed 457 feet into the stands in left center.
The continuity of the Indiana men’s basketball team has many slating the Hoosiers as the team to beat in the Big Ten next season. A piece of the consistency and experience is the return of 6’6 wing Jordan Geronimo. With a plethora of talent on the roster, minutes will be earned for the rising junior and that led to questions about whether or not Geronimo would return to Bloomington. On Tuesday, Geronimo spoke to the media about the trust he has in the program saying, “I have trust in Mike Woodson and I have trust in the program. I want the program to be successful and we’re fighting for [a championship].” With other key pieces like Trayce Jackson-Davis and Race Thompson returning for another season, the Hoosiers are expected to contend for a Big Ten title in 2022-23.
The losing streak is now double digits for the Indiana Fever and Tuesday’s loss to the Sparks means it has been over a month since the last Fever victory. Indiana fell in Los Angeles 86-79 despite 22 points and four rebounds off the bench from Tiffany Mitchell. As a team, the Fever shot over 50 percent from the field and 46 percent from beyond the arc while knocking down 83 percent of their 18 free throws. However, Indiana could not quite overcome a season-high 35 points from Sparks forward Nneka Ogwumike. They remain out west for their next contest on Thursday in Las Vegas against the Aces.
