With the departure of Malcolm Brogdon to the Boston Celtics, the Indiana Pacers added Aaron Nesmith to a backcourt that already featured Tyrese Haliburton, Bennedict Mathurin and Chris Duarte. Nesmith, a two-year player at Vanderbilt, spent his first two seasons with the Boston Celtics where his role was limited. He averaged just 4.2 points per game playing just 12.7 minutes per contest. The 6’6 wing made it to the NBA on the back of his shooting and scoring abilities at Vanderbilt. The 22-year-old says he comes to the Indiana with the goal of becoming the best 3-and-D player in the NBA and he should get more opportunity to grow on a team that isn’t competing for championships like the Boston Celtics were. He played 25 minutes or more in just four games across two seasons.
Chicago White Sox pitchers gave up just five hits to the Guardians on Wednesday and got just enough run support to beat Cleveland 2-1.Meanwhile, the Chicago Cubs bats were ice cold at Wrigley Field putting bat to ball just six times and going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. They lost to the Orioles 7-1. The St. Louis Cardinals were on their way to a second straight win over the Dodgers before the NL West leaders scored seven unanswered to steal the game 7-6. After a come-from-behind win in New York on Tuesday, the Cincinnati Reds coughed up a 4-0 lead early on eventually losing to the Yankees 7-6 in extra innings. The Detroit Tigers struggles continued in Kansas City with a 5-2 loss to the Royals. Kansas City scored all five of their runs in the fourth and fifth innings and the Tigers are now losers of four of their last five.
The Indiana Fever lost their seventh straight on Wednesday falling to the Connecticut Sun 89-81. Indiana fell behind early failing to score 20 points in each of the first three quarters. A 35-point final frame cut the deficit to single digits but the Fever never truly threatened the Sun at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Now 5-20, Indiana has the worst record in the WNBA by five games in the loss column. The Fever next game comes on Friday evening when they take on the Minnesota Lynx at home at 7:00pm.
