Indy Car is in Toronto this week, but Colton Herta began his week testing McLaren’s 2021 Formula 1 car in Portugal. The Andretti Autosport driver signed an F1 testing deal with McLaren in March. Herta is part of Formula 1’s new TPC program. TPC standing for testing of previous car. The program is used so teams can host private test days on the year-old cars with drivers that might later be an official “young driver” to run F1’s mandated Free Practice sessions later this year. Originally, McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said that testing for Herta and Pato O’Ward likely wouldn’t happen until later in the fall after Indy Car’s season ended. As of right now, McLaren is not trying to fill a seat in it’s Formula 1 lineup. Those spots are currently occupied.

They’ll take on Davidson in the Indy Classic, an event also featuring Ball State and Illinois State. Their 11-game nonconference schedule will conclude just before New Years against Florida A&M.
