Tiger Woods is ready for the British Open. The golf legend has been practicing to get in shape for next week’s major at St. Andrews in Scotland. It’s been a rough few months back on the tour for Tiger, who finished 47th at The Masters and then had to withdraw after three rounds at the PGA Championship. The 15-time major champ says that competing at the British Open was so important to him that he skipped last month’s U-S Open to not jeopardize his participation there.
In a classic pitchers’ dual, the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 1-0 on a Mike Moustakas walk off sac fly in the bottom of the ninth. Max Scherzer returned from injury with a gem going six innings, giving up two hits and striking out 11. Nick Lodolo was just as effective for the Reds. The left hander turned in four and two thirds innings of no run baseball and the Reds bullpen added on four and a third scoreless innings giving up just three hits.
The Tigers offense exploded for 11 runs on 13 hits as they cruised past the Guardians 11-4.
In Atlanta, the Braves held the Cardinals to just one run that came in the top of the first before the Braves put up a five spot in the bottom of the first frame. They’d go on to win 7-1.
The Chicago White Sox gave up five home runs to Minnesota at Guaranteed Rate Field. An eighth inning rain delay didn’t shift any momentum to the Sox as they fell 8-2.
The other team out of Chicago fell behind early in Milwaukee 2-0 before putting up seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The Cubs went on to beat the Brewers 8-3.
The weekend at Mid-Ohio won’t first be remembered for Scott McLaughlin’s second win of the season but the on and off track incidents surrounding Andretti Autosport. On multiple occasions, teammates Alexander Rossi and Romain Grosjean came into contact on the course. Grosjean also slid into Colton Herta on a miscalculation in Turn 2 and Rossi also ran rookie Devlin DeFrancesco off the track. In a statement provided to the Indy Star, Michael Andretti called the incident “disappointing and unacceptable” and said that the root of the issues stemmed from personalities not getting along recently. In a small scrum of reporters, Grosjean called Rossi an “absolute idiot” on multiple occasions. IndyCar’s next race is next Sunday, but the Andretti Autosport drivers are schedule to test in Iowa together this week.
