Delmar Edward Mathies

Delmar Edward Mathies, 85, of Loogootee, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020, at Parkview Village in Odon, Indiana, surrounded by his family.
He was born Jan. 8, 1935, in Daviess County, Indiana, to Joseph and Barbara (Prechtel) Mathies. Delmar was one of nine children, being the youngest. He attended grade school for six years in Cannelburg, seventh and eighth grade at St. Peter’s School, and graduated from Montgomery High School in 1953.
Delmar married Margaret Rose Borho on Jan. 9, 1960, in St. Meinrad Archabbey Church. He was a United States Army veteran. He served in the U.S. Infantry from 1955-1957. Delmar was a 3rd Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loogootee, Indiana. Delmar was a lifelong farmer.
Delmar was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Mathies on March 10, 2018; his siblings, Ardella Norris, Genevieve Riney, Othmar Mathias, Robert Mathies, Victor Mathias, Ernest Mathias, Donald Mathias and Doris Burger.
He is survived by his children, David Mathies of Indianapolis, Kevin Mathies of Loogootee, Kathy (Mike) Miller of Cannelton, Diane (Bill) Nelson of Indianapolis, George (Terri) Mathies, Brian (Sherri) Mathies, both of Loogootee; grandchildren Lucas Mathies, Matthew and Megan Mathies, Elisa and Michael Miller, Anna, Alison and Kelli Mariutto, Jen (Rudy) Riva, Joe (Mo) Nelson, Samm (Tom) Rauh, Jacob Mathers and Eli (Natalie) Mathers, Lucas Jones, Gordon Jones and Ryan Jones; great-grandchildren Jeffrey and Nikki Riva, Margaret Rauh; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary-Barr Township.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee, Indiana.
