Veteran’s Day in Washington is extra special this year with lots of pomp and circumstance.
Mike Mike McKittrick has been planning the events for some time. He runs down some of the activities that will happen Saturday.

At 12:30 activities move to the roundabout where a flagpole will be dedicated and the drive will be renamed in honor of Lt. General Tony Jones. You can park on the Olon or Schwan’s lots if you attend.
On Friday, the Daviess County Museum’s Salute to Veterans program is at 3-pm with a parade downtown to follow at 5-pm.
Tony Jones Military Bio 
His 36 years in the Army began after completing ROTC at Indiana University
with his first assignment as a 2LT in the Infantry. Later in his career, Aviation
became a combat arms branch of the Army in 1983 and Tony volunteered. He
was among the first leaders selected to command elements of this unit called
Task Force 160…The Night Stalkers. This elite group of Special Operations
Aviators was and is designed for responsive combat operations to meet our
Nations needs. Of note, The Night Stalker Creed (which should be Googled)
reflects the commitment for individuals who volunteer to serve in in what is
now named the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment – Airborne. At
the end of his Special Operations assignments, Tony transitioned into the
Apache Attack Helicopter and as a Lieutenant Colonel he commanded an
Apache Attack Aviation Battalion in Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He
continued to serve in command and staff positions, in both combat an
d peacetime operations. His assignments included tours in Europe, Middle
East, Far East, and the United States. Key assignments include two tours in
the Pentagon, both the Army and Joint Staff; a tour in Europe during 9/11 as
the Chief of Staff, US Army Europe; and the Commanding Officer of the U.S.
Army Aviation Warfighting Center, at Fort Rucker, AL. General Jones
extensive experience in Special Operations and battlefield commands led to
his authoring the Army Aviation Modernization Campaign Plan. The Army
Aviation Hall of Fame calls his Plan the “basis for the future,” and states
further that the programs designed by LTG Jones “are now standard for
aviator and leadership development.”
