Robert F Abel, 97, of Shoals, passed away on June 8, 2024 at his residence surrounded by family.
He was born on June 30, 1926 in Shoals to Curtis and Lorena (Forman) Abel. He was a graduate of Shoals High School Class of 1944. On June 26, 1949 Robert married Mary Louise Dwyer.
Robert worked as an Over the Road Truck Driver retiring after 43 years from Associated Truck Lines, was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Loogootee and the Shoals Fraternal Order of Eagles. He loved his wife, family and keeping busy. Robert was elected as a Shoals Town Councilman, he served for two terms which included a seat on the Board of the Martin County Recycling Center. He was also on the Board of Directors for Shoals Senior Housing and on the Board for Martin County Council for Aging. Robert was always willing to help anyone in need.
Robert is survived by his children; Sheryl (Joe) Ogg, Shoals; Robert (Tish) Abel, Martinsville; Anthony (Bobbie) Abel, Dover Hill; Daniel (Michelle) Dwyer, Huntsville, AL; David (Julia) Dwyer. Destin, FL. Grandchildren; Justin (Nikki) Hayden, Aaron (Natalie) Hayden, Joe (Michele) Ogg, Jade (Steve)Sharpe, Jordan (Natalie) Abel, Jen (Mike) Morrison, Joshua Brulla, Jalisa (Greg) Fleitz, Gavin Dwyer, Grant (Ellie) Dwyer, Jakob (Carmen) Dwyer. He has 25 Great Grandchildren. Brother Roger (Rosie) Abel and sister-in law Helen Sterns and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Louise Abel, his brother William, sister Mary Rose and one grandson Mathew Hayden.
Cremation was chosen and no services will be held. The family will hold a graveside service at a later date.
