Law enforcement officers and firefighters gathered in Washington on Wednesday to observe Peace Officers Memorial Day. During the ceremony, bells were rung in remembrance of seven officers who died in the past year in Indiana, including two from southwest Indiana. They were Sgt. Heather Glenn of the Tell City Police Department and Asson Hacker of the Perry County Sheriff’s Department. Washington Mayor Dave Rhodes, a former fire chief, read a proclamation in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week. In his remarks, he highlighted the essential role played by officers in the Washington Police Department and Daviess County Sheriff’s Department in protecting local citizens.
