The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a vehicle accident that took place during the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza at Wagler Motorsports in Lyons on August 23. The incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. when a Jeep, serving as a pit vehicle, drove out of the truck pull staging area and into a crowd of spectators. The Jeep struck three pedestrians, a side-by-side utility vehicle, a track rake, and another vehicle before overturning. Four individuals, including the Jeep’s driver and three pedestrians, sustained critical injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. The Switz City Fire Department was the first to alert authorities, with the Greene County Ambulance Service and Air Evac providing emergency assistance. The investigation by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office is ongoing.
