knox-county-sheriffs-office

Early on August 2, a Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop around 2:30 AM for an expired license plate. During the stop, the driver provided false information about his identity. It was discovered that the expired plate was not registered to the vehicle. The deputy identified the driver as Derek Alexander Jones, who had an active felony warrant from Lake County, Indiana. Jones was also found in possession of a handgun, which is illegal due to his 2015 conviction for second-degree murder. Jones was arrested for the active warrant and additional charges, including obstruction for providing a false name (a Level 6 felony) and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon (a Level 4 felony). He was transported and booked into the Knox County Jail.
