Trial Date Set for Calvin Wittmer in Murder Case

Knox County – Calvin James Wittmer, 18, will stand trial for the murder of James Mischler starting October 15. Wittmer was formally charged in Knox Superior Court on Friday, where he entered a preliminary plea of not guilty. Court-appointed attorneys Cole Kirchoff and Bryan Jewell will represent Wittmer, while Chief Deputy Prosecutor Mike Steiner is representing the state. Steiner identified the victim as James Mischler during the hearing. Wittmer is accused of fatally shooting Mischler on July 24. Police responded to the incident at 12:35 a.m. and found that Wittmer had fled the scene. He was later apprehended without incident. Wittmer is currently held in Knox County Jail without bond.
