Washington School Board Adds Veteran Officers as School Resource Officers

The Washington School Board has added two veteran police officers as school resource officers. At Thursday’s meeting, the board hired Todd Church and Mark Hudson as school resource officers at the elementary school. Church retired from the Washington Police Department as Chief of Police. Hudson is also a retired officer and has volunteered in the Washington system for several years. WPD officer Colin Cornelius will continue as the SRO at the WHS-WJHS complex.
In other personnel action, the Board accepted the retirement of veteran elementary teacher Rachel Wildman and granted leaves-of-absence to elementary teachers Michael Gregory and Isabella Henderson. The Board also approved hiring Patrick Keeler as the 5th and 6th grade band director and assistant high school band director. Ross Martin will teach high school social studies; Laura Allison will be the elementary ELL instructor; and Gina Kerns was hired as an elementary teacher. Jessica Bissey will be the high school career coach. Alex Isza was hired as a secretary at the primary school. Jane Seidel, Paytan Williams, Geraldy Martinez Barco, Alivia Bennett, Daysha Haag, and Ashley Travous were hired as elementary aides. Ruth Queen will be a bus monitor, Florinda Lloyd will be an elementary library assistant, and Cindy Kramer will substitute for a leave of absence at the Intermediate School.
In other business, the Board approved a request from the WHS International Cultures Club for a trip to New Zealand next summer. The Board also approved the appointment of Alex Valesquez to the Washington Carnegie Public Library Board.
At the end of the meeting, Superintendent Kevin Frank praised the facility crews and talked about the new drop-off lane at the primary school.

The next board meeting and a public work session are scheduled for August 15. The board is asking for input from the public at the work session.
