A death investigation is underway following the discovery of a 4-year-old girl found unresponsive on Friday morning. The Evansville Police Department (EPD) confirmed the young girl passed away on Sunday morning. Officers were dispatched to the scene for a medical emergency after a caller reported finding her roommate’s 4-year-old daughter unresponsive in their apartment. First responders from the Evansville Fire Department attempted to revive the child, who was then transported to the hospital. The child’s mother, 23-year-old Destiny Rhoades, was at work when the incident occurred and returned to the apartment upon notification. Inside the apartment were Rhoades’ 16-year-old boyfriend and three other adult females, all of whom were interviewed by detectives. Rhoades is currently held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 20th. The 16-year-old boyfriend has been arrested and placed at the Youth Care Center on charges of battery and false information. Due to the severity of the charges, he will be waived to adult court, and his name will be released.
