Residents of Knox County are advised to be aware of a jury duty scam. Scammers are using a spoofed number that appears as the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. They will call and claim that you have missed jury duty, demanding a large fine or threatening to issue a warrant for your arrest. The Sheriff’s Office will never contact you by phone or text regarding warrants or collecting money. Never make payments with gift cards, PayPal, Google Pay, Cash App, or any other method if you did not initiate the transaction. If you receive a call requesting information or money from someone claiming to be associated with the Sheriff’s Office, hang up immediately and call the Sheriff’s Office at 812-882-7660.
