Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division Launches Hypersonics Prize Challenges

The Joint Hypersonics Transition Office (JHTO) at NSWC Crane Division is initiating two prize challenges to showcase the development of hypersonics prototypes. The first challenge invites high school and college students to create videos answering questions related to hypersonics, with a total prize pool of $31,000. The second challenge seeks ideas from public and private sector members for the development and testing of hypersonic systems, offering awards totaling $1 million. The student challenge encourages students to create videos addressing specific questions. Winners can receive up to $10,000. The second challenge is a two-phased initiative seeking unique ideas for integrating hypersonic systems with existing Department of Defense platforms. The JHTO is open to ideas from various entities, including non-traditional defense players. The first phase involves submitting papers outlining concepts, with selected submissions receiving $100,000 for the second phase. Two winning proposals will be selected, each receiving up to $250,000, with the overall goal of developing an offensive system within 24 months.
