Longtime Public Servants Honored in Daviess County Commissioners Meeting

daviess-county-5

Daviess County recognized the retirements of two long-time public servants at Monday’s County Commissioners meeting. The Commissioners, along with County Councilman Matt Meredith, representing the Council, presented plaques to Janice McCarty for her retirement after 45 years of service in the County Highway Department office. Also recognized was Superior Court Judge Dean Sobecki. Sobecki is retiring after 25 years of service to the county in the prosecutor’s office and as a superior court judge.
In regular business, the commissioners announced that no bids have been received for the purchase of the county’s old salt storage barn. The Council also conducted a public hearing on an ordinance regarding the construction of solar fields in the county. County Surveyor Shawn Gabhart and Sarah Brackney told the commissioners that the ordinance was developed in consultation with Purdue University and other Indiana communities. One small change in the Daviess County ordinance is the requirement that all road use permits must run through the County Highway Department. The Commissioners also approved a letter in support of the construction of an EMS facility east of Daviess Community Hospital, approved the list of annual appointments, and gave an update on the courthouse renovation project. The commissioners meeting in January will be held at 9:00 a.m. on January 9. Beginning in February, the meeting schedule will change due to the courts sharing the commissioner’s meeting room.
