Major Overhaul for Business 50 in Washington Next Year

According to the Washington Times Herald, Business 50 in Washington is slated for extensive reconstruction next year. Gradex Inc. of Indianapolis secured the low bid, winning the project to revamp the bustling stretch of road between Washington Towers and Tractor Supply. The winning bid from Gradex amounted to $23,199,000, well below the engineer’s estimate of nearly $28 million. Mayor David Rhoads expressed confidence in Gradex, a reputable company, particularly recognized in central and northern Indiana. The comprehensive project entails a complete overhaul, down to the road’s base. This reconstruction effort will involve the replacement of sewer, water, and storm sewer lines, some of which have been in service for up to a century. While the exact commencement date remains uncertain, preparations are underway for public meetings to discuss the anticipated two-year disruption to the town’s busiest street. Mayor Rhoads acknowledges the challenges, emphasizing the need to strategize traffic management during this period. With four bids considered, the awarded bid marks a crucial step in the transformation of Business 50.
