Busy Session at Daviess County Council: Year-End Reports, Bond Ordinance, and Grants Discussed

daviess-county-5

The Daviess County Council had a long agenda of year-end reports, appointments, and fund transfers for Wednesday morning’s regular meeting. The Council also set the meeting calendar for 2024. Cindy Barber reported on Purdue Extension’s activities and services in the county over the past year. The council also heard a report concerning the West Boggs Park application for a READI 2.0 grant to address water quality issues at the lake. Jeremy Adams reported that the program had generated $280,000 in private investment in the appearance of buildings in downtown Washington.
In other business, the council introduced a bond ordinance in anticipation of the courthouse renovation project. The introduction to the ordinance is a preliminary step, and the bond does not need to be issued if not needed. The Council also appropriated a little more than $136,000 received from a federal grant for nationally compliant radios for all Daviess County law enforcement agencies. The current radios are 12 years old, and the new radios will give local law enforcement the ability to communicate with state and federal agencies in the event of an emergency.
The Council is scheduled to have a special joint meeting with the County Commissioners on November 14 to discuss the Courthouse renovation project. The next regular council meeting is scheduled for December 13.
