Former Police Deputy Arrested on Multiple Charges

PRINCETON, Ind. — A former police deputy, Timothy Butcher, has been arrested on charges of felony theft and official misconduct. These charges stem from his alleged misuse of his position with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department to increase his earnings. The investigation into Butcher, who is 48 years old, began in 2021 when authorities discovered irregularities in the financial records he was responsible for maintaining. During his four-year tenure as a grant administrator within the department, Butcher’s role was to oversee the proper administration of federal grant funds and ensure they were used as intended. However, Indiana State Police claim that he failed to submit all the necessary paperwork and had paid himself for overtime he hadn’t earned. Butcher left his position in 2021. He was apprehended by officers from the U.S. Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General and is currently held at the Gibson County Jail.
