Knox County Residents Alerted to Scam Using Vincennes Police Phone Number

vincennes-police

VINCENNES. — Knox County residents are urged to be aware, as a scam involving the Vincennes Police Department’s non-emergency phone number has surfaced. The Vincennes Police Department’s Chief of Police, Jonathan Hillenbrand, issued a warning about this scam. It involves callers spoofing the local police department’s non-emergency number to contact residents. When answered, the caller claims to be connected to an ongoing investigation and provides a detective’s name along with a fake phone number. Hillenbrand emphasizes that residents should disregard such calls and avoid dialing the provided phone number. He stresses that the Vincennes Police Department does not operate in this manner and would only contact individuals via the police department’s direct line, never a private number. Residents who have encountered these scam calls are encouraged to report them to local law enforcement to ensure proper documentation.
