Partnership to Bring Recovery Housing to Dubois County

behindthewire

Next Step Recovery Home and Behind the Wire Ministries have joined forces to introduce recovery housing to Dubois County. Next Step Recovery Home, a registered nonprofit (501(c)(3)), owns a residence located at 2603 Brosmer Street and will oversee its maintenance and upkeep. The day-to-day management and operation of the recovery program will be led by Loogootee-based Behind the Wire Ministries, another 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Behind the Wire Ministries operates a Level III recovery residence certified by the Division of Mental Health and Addiction. This collaboration allows Behind the Wire to be the on-site manager and offer services to participants. Participants referred and accepted into the program will start with the Behind the Wire program in Loogootee for the initial 45 days. Afterward, they have the option to transfer to the recovery home in Jasper. Men seeking assistance can be referred through treatment providers, the criminal justice system, family members, or by self-referral. While a minimum stay of nine months is expected, residents have the opportunity to remain for up to two years.
In late 2020, the Dubois County Community Foundation received a generous $4.4 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to enhance mental health and addiction treatment services in the region. Next Step Recovery Home was established in 2021 with the mission of providing secure, drug-free housing for men in recovery, with grant support from the Community Foundation.
