Former Vincennes Police Chief Pleads Guilty to Official Misconduct

Former Vincennes Police Chief Dusty Luking has entered a guilty plea for a Level 6 felony charge of official misconduct. This plea came during a Change of Plea hearing held on Wednesday. Superior Court Judge Gara Lee accepted the plea agreement, which included the dismissal of two counts related to forgery and theft. The charges against Luking originate from an FBI investigation that commenced in 2019 during his tenure as Police Chief. Authorities uncovered evidence indicating that Luking misappropriated $35,000 from the police evidence vault for personal use. Following the investigation, Luking stepped down from his role as police chief. The originally scheduled trial dates for earlier this year were canceled as the case proceeded. As part of his sentencing, Judge Lee imposed a 30-month suspended probation on Luking. Additionally, Luking has been ordered to make restitution, although the exact amount has yet to be determined.
