Danny Walker Morris

Danny Walker Morris, 77, peacefully passed away September 23, 2023 at his home in Oakland City.
He married his High School love Donna Lovell on December 26, 1964. Together they have a daughter, Cindy, and two grandsons, Zachary & Tyler Stolz.
After graduation from Greenville High School in Greenville, KY in 1964 he signed his first profession baseball contract with the Minnesota Twins where He played professional baseball for 8 years in both the Major and Minor leagues.
In 1965 he set the strike out record for the Wisconsin Rapids in the Midwest League by averaging 11 strikeouts per 9 innings to earn TOPPS Player of the month for August 1965. He was named a Kentucky Colonel the same year.
In 2016 he was inducted into the inaugural Muhlenberg County Athletic Hall of Fame along with other Meulenberg County greats.
Danny considered this to be one of his greatest accomplishments. After retiring from the MLB due to injuries–he moved to Oakland City to work along side his father, Clyde Morris, at Old Ben Coal.
After Old Ben Coal closed, Danny opened Friends Bar & Grill with his wife Donna in 1990. For 33 years he loved working at Friends and making lifelong friends that he cherished.
Danny is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donna, his daughter, Cindy Morris Stolz and grandsons, Zach and Tyler Stolz, Brother Wayne Morris (Marilyn) of Providence, Ky, Sister-in-law Ann Tudor (ED) of Lexington, KY, Brother-in-law Brent “Scoob” Lovell of Petersburg, IN, nephews Mike and Mark Morris, niece Whitney Ann Tudor Sarver, Ph.D. and nephew Joshua Tudor. He was preceded in death by his parents Marion Clyde and Garnet Morris and his in-laws Melvin and Bernice Lovell all of Greenville, KY.
Services for Danny will take place at 11 AM EST on Wednesday, September 27, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, IN with visitation from 4 – 8 PM EST on Tuesday, September 26, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Walnut Hills Cemetery in Petersburg. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to PAWS of Petersburg and mailed to PO Box 63 Petersburg, IN 47567. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
