Washington High School’s Advanced Placement Program Sees Remarkable Success: AP Scholars at WHS

The Advanced Placement program at Washington High School is seeing growing success, with 46% of last year’s senior class enrolled in AP classes. Washington’s Assistant Superintendent Steve Peterson told the School Board that four years ago, Washington High School was able to partner with the University of Notre Dame’s Advanced Placement Investment Program, which provided professional development and training for educators and opportunities for students. The College Board recognizes students who have successfully completed three very difficult AP exams with a score of 3.0 as AP Scholars. The last 17 WHS students, Jorge Barco, Ella Barnard, Chloe Browning, Allison Davis, Alyssa Edwards, Brayden Garland, Lucas Grass, Juan Hernandez, Issac Mozingo, Alex Myers, Liz Perez, Jacob Traylor, and Amber Wliiams were recognized as AP Scholars. Four students, Jayden Meredith, Hallie Hill, Elijah Parsons, and Elaina Sellers, passed three AP tests with a score of 3.25 and were named AP Scholars with Distinction. And three WHS students, Madelyn Kempf, Xavier Frank, and Ben Myers, passed three AP tests with a score of 3.5 and were named AP Scholars with Honors. Frank, Kempf, and Sellers were only juniors last year and were presented their AP Scholar certificates at Thursday’s board meeting. WHS offers 12 Advanced Placement classes, one of the widest selections in southwestern Indiana. Peterson says the levels of rigor in these classes prepare WHS students for success after high school. Plus, AP students find the benefit of having AP scores converted to college credit, which saves on tuition costs.
