Dale Ray Moody

Dale Ray Moody, 91, of Washington, passed away on September 20, 2023 at The Villages at Oak Ridge. He was born February 23, 1932 in Dugger, IN the oldest of seven children of Gerald Gale and Esta (Norris) Moody.  His family moved from Sullivan County to Scotland, IN in 1943 where Dale attended Scotland School.
Dale was an automobile mechanic beginning his career at Wilson Chevrolet in 1949 and concluding with operating Moody’s Auto Service in Washington, IN from 1980 thru 2012.  He was known for Drag Racing with Sam Jones and Mack Jones of Washington, IN campaigning the Moody-Jones C/GS 1937 Coupe drag car winning several National Championships resulting in their receiving NHRA’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.  Dale also campaigned a Pulling Truck winning five Indiana Truck Pull Association championships.
He leaves behind his two children; Mike (Diane) Moody of Plainfield, IN and Steve (Tammy Jordan) Moody of Louisville, KY and one stepchild; Kristy (Palmer) Bolling of Oakland, IN.  He is also survived by his sister; Becky Strietelmeier and many grand and great grandchildren.  He is also survived by family friend, Dawn Perkins.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Virginia (Foster Palmer) and 5 brothers and sisters; Charles (Gene) Moody, Dean Moody, Jerry Moody, Betty (Don) DeMoss and Patty Baker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1PM on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Fredrick and Son-Gill Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Jones officiating.  Interment will follow at Sugarland Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the 20th Century Car Club.  Public visitation will be held from 11AM to 1 PM at Fredrick and Son-Gill Funeral Home in Washington, IN.
