Odon Faces Nearly 30% Increase in Waste Disposal Contract Bid

The Odon town board received only one bid for trash collection services on Monday, leading to concerns over a significant price hike. Republic, the current provider, submitted the bid, which is much higher than the present rates. Residents paying $13.40 monthly will see their bill rise to $20. The proposed three-year contract starts at $20, increasing to $21 and $22.05 in the second and third years, marking a nearly 30% increase. The surge is attributed to elevated labor, fuel, and landfill costs, as stated by a company representative. Clerk-Treasurer Mandy Wilz mentioned that other potential bidders hesitated due to the expected high costs. The current contract with Republic is set to end in August, prompting the council to seek a 60-day extension and negotiation.
