The Daviess County Commissioners had a short agenda for their first meeting of August on Tuesday morning. County Highway Superintendent Chris Winkler reported on the Montgomery bridge project and said that concrete was being poured on the bridge floor. Winkler also reported that he had a meeting with Milestone Paving about the failure on the new portion of County Road 900 E scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. The engineering firm on the project will also take part in the meeting.
In other business, the commissioners heard a presentation from Amber Werden, the Help S.I.P. Coordinator with the Economic Development Commission. Werden said that Daviess County was one of twelve counties in the State to be part of the Help Program. Werden presented the Commissioners with a proposal for signage and beautification of entry ways to the county and communities and for a sidewalk and trail project. The Commissioners approved the proposal, allowing for access to state grant funds. The Commissioners also approved a request from Daviess County Emergency Management Director Scott Myers to apply for a grant to supply new radios for law enforcement agencies in Daviess County. Myers said the current radios being used by county law enforcement are 10 years old and technologically outdated. In addition, the Commissioners approved a request from County Clerk Lauren Milton to adjust the county’s election map to reflect the City of Washington’s annexation of the Buffalo Trace subdivision.
At the end of the meeting, the Commissioners heard a Courthouse renovation update. The main topic of discussion was the plan to relocate courtrooms and the Clerk’s, Probation, and Prosecutor’s offices during the renovation process. The Commissioners will hold a special meeting to discuss details related to the renovation.
