Early yesterday morning, July 23rd, Trooper Andrew Jones conducted a traffic stop on State Road 56 near French Lick due to a defective headlight. During the stop, the driver, 24-year-old Austin Markel of Odon, displayed signs of impairment and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. After further investigation, Markel was found to have a blood alcohol content of .101%. He was subsequently arrested and charged with OWI. As a reminder, all criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
