Indiana State Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting in Greene County

Detectives from the Indiana State Police are leading an investigation into an officer-involved shooting incident that occurred on July 19, at approximately 10:00 a.m., in Owensburg. At the time of the incident, deputies from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, along with a deputy from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, were searching for a suspect involved in a shooting that had taken place overnight in Bloomington. Upon locating the suspect’s vehicle, deputies heard a gunshot coming from the tent and took immediate cover. In response, a Greene County deputy discharged his service rifle towards the tent. Following this, the Bloomington Police Department SWAT team was activated and entered the tent, discovering a deceased male inside. All deputies involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave, following standard protocol for officer-involved shootings. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department is conducting a separate investigation into the initial shooting incident in Bloomington. As the investigation remains ongoing, no further details are available at this time.
