Indiana’s Bid Fund Fuels Statewide Competition for Sporting Events

Indiana’s statewide “bid fund” for hosting sporting events is set to make a significant impact this year. Following the passage of legislation last year, cities and counties across the state can now compete for sporting events with the support of the bid fund. The fund aims to enhance the economic benefits of hosting such events in Indiana. Patrick Talty, the newly appointed president of the Indiana Sports Corp.,  emphasizes that it enables Indiana to pursue events that were previously out of reach due to financial constraints. By providing financial resources, Indiana can now compete with states like Texas, which have already established bid funds. While the majority of the funds will be available statewide, Marion County will receive 30% of the funding. Talty appreciates the fund’s ability to prevent cities in Indiana from competing against each other. He emphasizes the unity of “Team Indiana” and their shared goal of keeping these prestigious events within the state. The Indiana Sports Corp. is excited to showcase its impressive lineup of upcoming sporting events, including the NBA All-Star Game in 2024, the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials, the Men’s Final Four in 2026, and the Women’s Final Four in 2028.
