Olamae M. Bess, 95, passed away at 5:30 am on June 25, 2023, at Gentlecare Rehabilitation Center. Olamae was born on March 24, 1928, and she is the daughter of John and Jennie (Church) Martindale. Olamae married George B. Bess and he preceded her in death.
Olamae was a hairdresser and master cosmetologist for over seventy-five years and she owned and operated Olamae’s at 18th and Willow Streets since 1980. She was a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Jo Smith of Vincennes, grandson, Wesley Smith and his wife Becky of Mt. Carmel, IL; six great grandchildren, fourteen great-great grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Smith and her husband John of Vincennes and a brother Larry Martindale and his wife Wilda of Vincennes. Olamae is preceded in death by her parents, John and Jennie Martindale, her husband George B. Bess, one brother Junior Martindale and one great grandson Jett Smith.
Graveside services for Olamae will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 919 Willow Street.
