Dorothy “Maxine” Killion

Dorothy “Maxine” Killion, 97, of Washington, IN passed away June 5, 2023. She was born in Washington, IN on November 20, 1925, to the late Warren and Ada (Hopkins) Thomas.
Maxine graduated from Washington High School in 1943. Shortly after high school Maxine worked for Ralph G. Hastings’ Insurance and Real Estate Office as secretary for seven years. She worked part-time in the Daviess County Treasurer’s Office, Recorder’s Office, and Clerk’s Office until 1957, when she became court reporter for the Daviess Circuit Court, serving until 1964. For a number of years, Maxine was a freelance court reporter, working in Daviess, Martin, Pike, Knox, and Gibson Counties. For 10 years she lived in the Evansville area, working in Vanderburgh County. On November 1, 1986, Maxine became a court reporter for the Daviess County Superior Court for Judge Judith Dwyer and served until her retirement on July 26, 1991.
Maxine was a Delta Theta Tau Sorority Alumna and former president. She was a member of the Arts and Flowers Garden Club, the Monday Afternoon Club and American Legion Auxiliary. She served on the Daviess County United Way Board for many years and also served as president. Maxine was a volunteer for several organizations and served well in her community.
She was a member of Bethany Christian Church.
Maxine was married to Jack Killion for 25 years and they had two children.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Clint (Barbara) Thomas, Homer (Sue) Thomas, George (Madalene) Thomas, Everett (Roberta) Thomas, Clyde (Margaret Jean) Thomas, Jim (Dortha) Thomas; two sisters, Ruth (Wes) Gorsage, and Mary Lou (Bill) Strange; and son-in-law Stephen “Boomer” Mueller.
She is survived by her two children, Linda Mueller of Greenwood, IN and Bill and wife Debbie Killion of Washington, IN; three grandchildren, Drew Mueller of Indianapolis, IN, Stephanie Mueller of Denton, TX, and Jenny Killion and fiancée Austin Marlow of Terre Haute, IN; and many nieces and nephews.
Goodwin-Sievers is honored and entrusted with the care of Mrs. Killion. A Memorial Service will be held June 23rd at 12:30pm at Bethany Christian Church in Washington, IN. Visitation with family will begin at 11:30am until the time of service.
Memorial Donations may be made to Bethany Christian Church in Maxine’s honor.
