Mary Darlene Ayers

Mary Darlene Ayers, 72, of Loogootee, Indiana passed away on Monday June 5, 2023, surrounded by her family at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
She was born on April 30, 1951, in Bedford, Indiana to the late George and Jennie (Casada) Pemberton.
Mary was a United States Army Veteran, serving in Germany, she was the 1st woman in the Indiana National Guard. She believed in the Christian Faith. Mary loved the outdoors and working in her flower garden. She married Larry Gene Ayers in 1977, they were married for 38 years before he passed away in 2014. Mary was a waitress throughout her life and one of the first waitress at Stoll’s Lakeview when it opened. In her later years Mary loved to embroider and spend time with her family and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Larry Gene Ayers, her parents, George and Jennie Pemberton, her siblings, infants Wilma and Gene Pemberton, and Francis “Sissy” Wilkerson, and Richard “Dicky” Pemberton.
She is survived by her children, Melissa (Jay) Sergent of Plainville, Indiana, Richard “Rick” Ayers of Loogootee, Indiana, her grandchildren, Zack (Amanda) Verseman, Richard Lawrence Scott Ayers, Derrick Ayers, Ashlynn Ayers, Annabelle Sergent, Kameron Ayers, Jaxson Sergent, her great- grandchildren, Tristan Verseman, Hayley Verseman, Reagan Bancroft, Mason Bancroft, and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation was chosen according to Mary’s wishes. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Legion Post #196 in Bloomfield, Indiana in honor of Mary.
