WHS seniors Ellie Matteson and Juan Hernandez Escalera received a $1000 scholarship each at the American Legion Fall Conference for winning the Indiana State Americanism and Government Test.
The test evaluates a student’s understanding of the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, patriotism, the federal government, and various levels of state and local government.
The test had 1,954 participants this year, and the winners were seniors at Washington High School.
