Update On Knox County Coroner

The Knox County Commissioners have given an update on the process of removing Knox County’s Coroner from office.
Andrew Porter, the Knox County attorney, said in a press release that the commissioner and Knox County Council were already exploring the process of removing Karen Donovan from her position before she was charged with criminal offenses.
Donovan was arrested by Indiana State Police after a search warrant was served at her house.
Methamphetamine and fentanyl were found in the home.  She’s charged with Possession of Meth and a Controlled Substance.
Porter says the commissioners intend to vote on a resolution in support of removing Donovan as the coroner at their meeting on April 4th.
The Knox County Council intends to do the same at its regular meeting on April 11th.
If the restitutions pass, Porter says the prosecutor must follow Indiana law requiring written accusations to be filed and presentation of evidence at a formal judicial hearing before any removal may occur.
Porter ensures the community that the Knox County Coroner office is fully operational and the commissioners have taken steps to make sure the records are all properly stored.
