Suana L. Hollis

Suana L. Hollis, 73, passed away February 19, 2023. She was born in Washington on January 26, 1950, to Jesse L. and Barbara R. (Powers) Willis.
After graduation from Washington High School in 1968, Suana attended the Detroit Institute of Technology where she earned a Bachelors Degree in computers. She became a certified suicide hotline operator, and later served as a Detroit police patrol officer in their 7th precinct. A woman of many talents, she later worked at 3-D, Need a Nurse, and owned her own business, Grandma’s Consignments. In 1989, she published a story under her penname of Channel Woodberry.
Suana also volunteered at two local food pantries. She loved her church, cooking, art, crafting, playing cards, shopping, traveling, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren. Suana was a member of the Southern Hollar Dulcimer and Folk Group. She loved to geocache and was so good at it she was given the nickname, “Sherlock Susie.” She was also the proud recipient of several dance contest trophies. A true lover of people, you were only a stranger to Suana one time. She was a member of the Newburgh Seven Day Adventists Church.
Those who now mourn Suana’s passing include: her children: Joanna (Miller) VanWinkle; Daniel J. VanWinkle, Jr.; sister, Melissa Bath; brothers, Terry Nash in Tennessee; Roger Nash of Washington. She was blessed with several grandchildren: Amanda Budlong of Evansville; Samantha Harris of Evansville; Adam VanWinkle of Vincennes; James VanWinkle of Indianapolis; and Amber Miller of Washington. She also leaves eleven great-grandchildren.
Suana was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Barbara Willis; husbands: Daniel J. VanWinkle and Albert Edo; stepson, Junior Edo; brothers: Alan Nash, Charlie Willis, Jesse Willis, Jr.; and sister, Mary Willis.
Visitation for Suana Hollis will be 11:00 am – 2:00 pm, Monday, February 27, 2023, at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, 620 East Viola Avenue, Washington, Indiana.
Funeral Services for Suana Hollis be immediately following the visitation and begin at 2:00 pm, also at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary. Yvonne Evans will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
