Barbara Lee Phillips Helm

Barbara Lee Phillips Helm passed away from this life with her family by her side on Friday, February 10, 2023 in Indianapolis, Indiana at the age of 77. Barbara was born on Wednesday, December 12, 1945 in Washington, Indiana.
Those left to cherish her memories include her husband and best friend John Helm, her four children,
Kristi Abunassar (Joe), Johnny Helm, Kelly Caskey (Michael), Julie Chapman (Brandon), eight
grandchildren, Jack Abunassar, Sam Abunassar, Mason Helm, Dee Dee Caskey, Kate Caskey, Anna Caskey, John Chapman, Madison Chapman, and numerous relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Thomas Phillips, Christine Dallenbach Phillips, and one sister Ann Shelton.
Barbara graduated from Washington High School and went on to St. Mary-of-the-Woods College,
becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). From there Barbara attained her Associate of Science in
Nursing (ASN) from the University of New York. She continued her education and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Southern Indiana.
She married the love of her life and best friend John Helm on Wednesday, December 20, 1967 in
Washington, Indiana. Barbara loved family. Her grandchildren were her life and she never missed an
opportunity to be with them! She was a member of Bethany Christian Church in Washington, Eastern
Star, Indiana Nursing Honor Guard, Miss Indiana and Miss America Organizations. Nursing was another passion and she took great joy in helping others. She owned and operated a nursing home and assisted living center in Washington. Residents and visitors felt the love that Barbara put into making both of these facilities a home. Barbara loved to go to Florida with John and her favorite times were sharing her home with family and visiting the farmers market with John. She will be deeply missed by so many who loved her.
Celebration of life for Barbara Lee Phillips Helm will be held on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 3:00 PM at the Bethany Christian Church at 1139 Indiana State Road 57 Washington, Indiana. Officiating will be Pastor Tom Watson. Visitation will follow the service from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the church. Goodwin Sievers is honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Barbara and her family.
