Both the 7th & 8th grade Lady Hatchets basketball teams took to the road and played at Sullivan on Tuesday Night. 7th graders got down and made a run to make it close but lose 31-27 to drop to 5-5 on the season.The 8th grade Lady Hatchets came out on fire in their game and cruise to a 43-20 victory to raise their record to 8 and 2.
The WJHS boys 7th grade basketball team (12-2) cruised to an easy road win at Vincennes Rivet 42-24 Tuesday night. Kayden Gross and Carter Browning led the way for the Hatchets with 14 and 12 points. Zach Frady had 6, Jackson Howell 4, Darian Turner, Jake Johnson and Bobby Kolusch all with 2. The WJHS boys 8th grade basketball team (7-4) fell to the Patriots 31-26. Brody Armes led the Hatchets with 14 points, Jaxson Voyles 6, Drew Jones and Levi Burkemper with 3 each.

The San Diego Padres signed free agent and former Cardinal Matt Carpenter to a one-year contract for the 2023 season that includes a player option for 2024, the team announced Tuesday. Carpenter, 37, revitalized his career in 2022 after hitting 15 home runs in 47 games for the New York Yankees before breaking his left foot in early August. He missed the rest of the regular season because of the injury but returned in the postseason.
