The Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association passed out awards this week. Loogootee’s Kylee Courter was named to the 1A All State First Team and in class 3A Barr Reeve’s Dylan DeCoursey was named All State 2nd team.  

On the South All District Teams In 3A it was Barr Reeve’s 

Dylan DeCoursey , Emma Wagler and Colleen Trambaugh and in 1A Kyleigh Courter and Sydnee Wittmer from the Lady Lions were named to that all district team. 

Volleyball All State academic team averaged a 3.96 gpa and local athletes on this squad include

In local HS basketball on Wednesday Jasper Lady Wildcats opened their season at Jeffersonville the Lady Red Devils get the win 54 -41 also it was  Boonville  45  Pike Central 21

The Roosevelt Lakers lost their home opener to Indiana University Northwest 79-59 on Wednesday evening in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup.  Former Lady Hatchet Kencia Levassuer came off the bench and added 5 points and 2 rebounds in 10 minutes of action.  The Lakers are now 1 and 2 on the season.

The IU Southeast women’s basketball team fell 84-80 to Simmons College in the home opener for the Grenadiers. Former Lady Hatchet Jesse Ledgerwood contributed 3 assists and 2 steals in 7 minutes of action.  IU Southeast is now 3 and 1 on the season and travel to Huntington University on Friday. 

In Men’s college hoops on Wednesday night former Barr Reeve Viking Curt Hopf and the Bellarmine Knights went to the Yum Center to take on the Louisville Cardinals and it pulled off the upset 67-66.  Hopf contributed 3 points and 3 rebounds to the Knights win. 

The Indiana Men’s Basketball team are at home tonight versus Bethune Cookman at Simon Skodt Assembly Hall.  Game time set for 8:30 and televised on the Big Ten Network.

The Indiana Pacers were at home on Wednesday versus the Denver Nuggets and lose 122-119 to drop to 5 and 6 on the season.  Bennedict Mathurin led the offensive attack with 30 and Tyrese Haliburton chipped in 21 and added 11 assists.  Myles Turner led on the boards with 11. Pacers next host Toronto on Saturday.

Indianapolis Colts interim head coach Jeff Saturday took his place in front of his new team for the first time, and he did it with a direct message to his team and fans.  **   Colts will play in the 4:00 slot on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas versus the Raiders and are currently a 6 point road underdog. Colts come into the game 3-5-1 and losers of 3 straight that in successive weeks caused changes at the QB, Offensive Coordinator and Head Coaching positions. Indiana Pacers were at home on Wednesday versus the Denver nuggets

The Brooklyn Nets officially named Jacque Vaughn head coach Wednesday. Vaughn had been serving as interim head coach since replacing former coach Steve Nash on Nov. 1. The move comes as a surprise given that many inside the league — and some within the organization — thought that suspended Boston Celtics coach and former Nets assistant Ime Udoka would take over for Nash.

For you fantasy football owners Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has entered the concussion protocol. John Wolford is the Rams’ backup quarterback and would play if Stafford has not been cleared before Los Angeles hosts the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday 

For 25 years, as Dusty Baker chased his first World Series title as a manager, the former big league outfielder would always say if he won one he’d like to win two. Baker will get a chance to do just that after he signed a one-year contract with the Houston Astros for the 2023 season. Baker earned his first World Series championship as a manager in his 25th season as a skipper when the Astros beat the Philadelphia Phillies in six games

Americans Love Football.   A lot of talk about transfer portals and payments to players would ruin the country’s obsession with the sport…as Lee Corso says “not so fast my friend.”   Georgia’s Saturday afternoon dismantling  of Tennessee, drew 13 million viewers, and is  the most-watched college football game of the year. That beat every game of the World Series, including the clinching Game 6 later that night, which drew 12.5 million viewers. The competing college football game, a tense LSU-Alabama matchup, drew 7.5 million viewers while on ESPN; the World Series was on broadcast TV.
