The Washington Jr High girls 7th & 8th Basketball teams opened up the season hosting Ft. Branch on Monday night. 7th grade lady hatchets opened the night with a great first two quarters and led at half time 19-8. Ft Branch would change defenses and Washington would struggle to change how to attack it. Washington would hold on to gain the victory 27-23.

The 8th grade Lady Hatchets finished up the night with a hard -fought battle all night in their opening game of the season and fell short in the great match up 29-40.

Both teams go on the Road Thursday night to take on Princeton.

North Daviess Cougar standout point guard Jaylen Mullen made it official today by signing his national letter of intent to continue his playing year at the next level by formally committing to Oakland City University. Mullen who runs the show from the point for last years 1A state champions still has some unfinished business as the Cougars make the jump to 3A this year. Congratulations to Jaylen, and the entire Mullen family.
The IU Men’s basketball team got things underway last night and came away with an 88-53 win over Morehead State. IU led 41-29 at halftime and then pulled away in the second half. Leading the way for the Hoosiers was Trace Jackson Davis with 15 pints on 6-11 shooting. TJD also led in rebounding while Jalen Hood-Schifino led with 4 assists.
 
One day after one of the Indianapolis Colts’ worst offensive performances in recent memory, the team fired fifth-year head coach Frank Reich.The Colts named Jeff Saturday as their interim head coach. Saturday, 47, a six-time Pro-Bowl center who played 13 seasons for the Colts and is currently an ESPN analyst, has been a consultant for the team and is in its Ring of Honor. Saturday also was head coach for the Hebron Christian Academy in Dacula, Georgia, for three seasons.The Colts’ 26-3 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday was their third straight defeat.The Colts failed to convert any of their 14 third-down attempts Sunday, tied for the worst single-game mark in the NFL in the past 30 years. Indianapolis generated 121 yards of total offense, the team’s lowest output since 1997 and the lowest of Reich’s tenure by 84 yards. It was the latest example of their deepening offensive challenges that are beginning to appear insurmountable despite a recent quarterback change from Matt Ryan to Sam Ehlinger and last week’s firing of offensive coordinator Marcus Brady. Reich, 60, was 40-33-1 (.547) in the regular season and had a 1-2 record in two playoff appearances but was a tenure defined by incessant turnover at quarterback; the Colts had different opening-day starters in each of Reich’s five seasons,
