In the NFL on Sunday
The Cots snatched defeat from the jaws of victory on Sunday as Washington’s Taylor Heinicke scored on a 1-yard plunge with 22 seconds left Sunday, capping an 89-yard drive in the final 2 1/2 minutes and sending the Commanders to a 17-16 victory Indy native Terry McLaurin set up the decisive score by wrestling the ball away from cornerback Stephon Gilmore, the 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, for a 33-yard catch one play before Heinicke scored.
The Colts defense was fantastic until the final drive but the Colts offense still had problem getting the ball into the end zone under first time starter Sam Ehlinger who finished 17 of 23 for 201 yards, and he also had six carries for 15 yards. He was sacked twice. This Sunday the Colts: renew their rivalry on a road trip to New England.

Indy (3-4-1) managed only one TD in Sam Ehlinger’s first career start. He took over at quarterback this week when coach Frank Reich announced longtime veteran Matt Ryan had been benched.

Christian McCaffrey has been worth every penny to the San Francisco 49ers and flashed just how much of a versatile weapon he can be in Week 8 against the Rams. After a goal-line touchdown run in the fourth quarter, McCaffrey became the first player since 2005 to throw, rush and catch a touchdown in a single game in the 49ers’ 31-14 victory.
The star back now joins a group that consists of just LaDainian Tomlinson (2005), David Patten (2001), and Walter Payton (1979) to complete the hat trick since the 1970 merger.

Tennessee crept up to a tie for No. 2 in the AP Top 25 poll this week ahead of an epic SEC showdown between the Volunteers and No. 1 Georgia on Saturday. Ohio State is also tied for second in the poll as both the Buckeyes and Volunteers finished with 1,500 points in the voting.

Former Georgia football coach Vince Dooley, a legendary figure in Athens who led the Bulldogs to their second national championship in 1980, has died, the school announced on Friday. He was 90 years old.
Dooley coached at Georgia from 1964-88 and worked as athletic director from 1979 to 2004 as he presided over some of the best years in program history. The Bulldogs went 201-77-10 under his watch as coach, including seven 10-win seasons and six SEC championships.

Jake Paul did his best to make sure youth was served on Saturday night against MMA legend Anderson Silva in a boxing event. The 25-year-old social media influencer turned boxer,
Paul who is now 6-0, with 4 KOs, rallied for a knockdown in the final round to cement an eight-round unanimous decision in the main event of a Showtime PPV card from Desert Diamond Arena. Paul took home scores of 77-74 and 78-73 (twice) against the 47-year-old Silva, the former UFC middleweight champion.

World Series game 3 is tonight at 8:03 on Fox. Pitching matchup for the series that is tied at 1 game apiece is the Astros turning to Lance Mccullers Jr and the Phillies starting Noah Syndergard. Phillies had planned to start Ranger Suarez but will give him an extra day of rest after he threw in relief in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday .

Seamus Power shot a roller coaster of a 70 in the final round of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship to go with three consecutive 65s to start the week and won by a single shot. The win gets Power into next year’s Masters and moves him up from his impressive No. 48 spot in the Official World Golf Rankings. The Irishman went out in 33 on Sunday but came home with four bogeys (including three in his last four holes!) and a 37 that could have upended his chances. However, his main competitor in the final round in Bermuda, Ben Griffin, had an even wackier back nine as he shot a 4-over 39 on the back with two birdies, four bogeys and a double. This week on the PGA TOUR is the Mayakoba Classic in Riviera Maya Mexico.

When he’s needed to in the NASCAR playoffs, Christopher Bell has become Christopher Clutch. Facing elimination in the Round of 12, Bell won at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in order to advance to the next round. He’s done it again, and this time, it’s going to give him an opportunity to win his first NASCAR Cup Series championship.
After taking four tires on his final pit stop, Christopher Bell ran down Chase Briscoe with four laps to go, making the pass on another driver in a must-win scenario and then pulling away to win the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville and put himself in the Championship 4.
