According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch right-hande hurler Adam Wainwright will return to the St. Louis Cardinals for the 2023 season. Wainwright had previously given a non-committal answer about his status for next season.nWainwright who is 41, will be appearing in his 18th big-league season. In his first 17, he amassed a 3.38 ERA and a 3.09 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Last season, the righty posted a 3.71 ERA in 32 starts, his third consecutive full-length season with 30-plus starts.

The NFL has suspended Chiefs pass rusher Frank Clark for two games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. This punishment stems from Clark being arrested twice last year in Los Angeles for possession of a concealed firearm. The 29-year-old pled no contest to a pair of misdemeanor charges this past September and was given a year of informal probation and ordered to perform 40 hours of community service.
Las Vegas Golden Knights forward Phil Kessel broke the National Hockey League record for consecutive games played in Tuesday’s 4-2 win over the San Jose Sharks. In doing so, Kessel played in his 990th consecutive game and broke the tie between himself and recently retired Keith Yandle, who set the mark last season.
Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner plans to keep Aaron Boone as his manager.
“As far as Boone’s concerned, we just signed him and for all the same reasons I listed a year ago, I believe he is a very good manager,” Steinbrenner said Wednesday as he left the Yankees player development complex. “I don’t see a change there.”Boone agreed last October to a three-year deal with a team option for 2025. In his fifth season as manager, New York sprinted to a 61-23 record in early July, sparking comparison with the 1998 champion Yankees. But hampered by injuries, the Yankees went 38-40 the rest of the way.
