Final Weekend for Washington Farmers Market Marks Successful Season

This Saturday will be the last day for Washington’s Farmers Market at the Commons on Main Street. The farmer’s market is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday mornings. Byron Holtsclaw, who operates the Big Greene Thumb and sells fresh vegetables at the Farmers Market, rated the initial Washington Farmer’s Market as very successful in the update he gave the Washington Rotary Club at Wednesday’s meeting. Holtsclaw said the Farmers Market has had two dozen vendors, selling everything from fresh seasonal vegetables, homemade candy, jams, bread, crocheted items, cinnamon rolls and cookies, pet accessories, and frozen locally raised beef. Holtsclaw also said food trucks make a regular appearance around lunchtime.
Looking at next year, Holtsclaw said the organizing committee from Discover Downtown Washington will meet over the winter to plan for next year. With the completion of the amphitheater in the Commons this fall, there is the possibility of having music for the farmer’s market and other events next year.
With the Washington Farmers Market ending its season this weekend, Holtsclaw encouraged everyone to come out and see what the local vendors are offering this week.
