State Sen. Mark Messmer Announces Resignation to Focus on Congressional Campaign

State Sen. Mark Messmer (R-Jasper) has announced his resignation from the Indiana Senate, effective September 3, 2024, to concentrate on his upcoming congressional campaign. Messmer, who has represented District 48 since November 2014, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve portions of southwest Indiana over the past 16 years. Prior to his tenure in the State Senate, Messmer served in the Indiana House of Representatives for District 63 from 2008 to 2014. He launched his bid for Indiana’s 8th congressional district in February 2024, securing the Republican primary victory over former U.S. Representative John Hostettler.
