Betty Sue “Susie” Wuertz (née Armes), 87, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, passed away on August 5, 2024. Born on June 19, 1937, in Wheatland, Indiana, Susie led a life marked by devotion to her family, faith, and community.
Susie was renowned for her warm, loving nature and her dedication to her family and friends. She was a pillar in her community, deeply involved in church activities and known for her organizational skills and hard work. Her life was a testament to her faith as she loved sharing her beliefs.
She is survived by her loving family: her son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Julia Wuertz; her grandchildren, Brandon and wife, Carrie Wuertz, Kendra and husband, Bryan Covell, and Corrie Wuertz; along with 10 great-grandchildren. Susie was a maternal figure to many, providing love and guidance to numerous friends and young people at church who often claimed her as “Mom” as well.
Susie was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Wuertz; her daughter, Melody Wuertz and granddaughter, Jessica Rae; her parents, Wilbert and Nellie Armes; her brother, Robert Earl Armes; and her sisters, Anna Lou Wright and Wilma Grannan.
Services to honor Susie’s life will be held at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 2020 State Street, Washington, IN. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, August 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. (EST), and Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. The funeral will commence at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, followed by interment at Bethany Christian Church Cemetery, 3 mi east of Washington on Hwy 50. A memorial service will be held at Grace Heartland Church in Elizabethtown, KY, at a later date.
Susie’s legacy of love, faith, and community service will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
