Washington Advances Plans for New East-Side Wastewater Treatment Plant

Washington is preparing to move forward with a new east-side waste water treatment plant. With the old plant on Washington’s west side nearing capacity, preliminary planning for the new plant began under former Mayor Joe Wellman’s administration. Since then, industrial and residential expansion on the east side of Washington has made the project more imperative. Richard Burch of Midwestern Engineers has been doing preliminary work on the plant since 2017. He said that the city’s appraisal of a 20-acre tract located on Graham Family land near the I-69 exchange came in at $571,600. The owner’s appraisal came in just $2,400 high.  Burch says he hopes to have an option to buy in place by the end of the year. City Councilman David Dahl noted that the project is still several years in the future but said it was important to get these first steps in place.
