Samuel B. Baker, 86, of Vincennes, IN passed away August 9, 2024. He was born in Wheatland, IN on February 12, 1938, to the late Herald and Emma (Smith) Baker. Sam married the love of his life, Sandra “Sandy” Deckard, on June 15, 1953 and she preceded him in death on March 1, 2024.
Sam retired from IP&L as an Assistant Engineer Sr. and he attended Wheatland Christian Church and Bruceville Christian Church. He is also a member of the Monroe City Masonic Lodge and enjoyed Cardinals baseball games. Most importantly though, he was a proud grandpa to his grandchildren and enjoyed anything they were involved in.
Survivors include his sons Ryan Baker and his wife Stacy of Terre Haute, Rhett Baker and his wife Delaney of Vincennes; his grandchildren, Hallie, Andrew, Pender, and Carver Baker; his sister-in-law, Deanna Baker of Wheatland, and numerous nieces and nephews. Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Herald and Emma Baker, his siblings, Leon, Jerry and Dean Baker and his wife, Sandy Baker.
Friends may visit with Sam’s family from 11:00 am until the hour of service time of 2:00 pm on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, IN 47591. Sam will be laid to rest next to his wife Sandy in Wheatland Cemetery. The Baker family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Sandra Baker Memorial Scholarship Fund through the South Knox Education Fund, Wheatland Christian Church or Bruceville Christian Church.
